The Lamentor

Like most of the scions of Sanguinus, the legend of the Sanguinor has spread through the ranks of Lamenters. However it would not be at their founding or even during some of their most pressing battles or campaigns that their own or perhaps a twisted version of the Sanguinor finally revealed itself to these macabre sons of Sanguinus.

The Chapter records indicate the start of the legend within the Lamenters occurs much later than that of it's cousins. It was not till M38 that the first chapter record indicates some sort of presence upon the field that could be attributed to the "Sanguinor" or as the figure became known the "Lamentor". Although the Chapter Reclusiarchs, Calix and even Librarians investigated and continued right till the end of the M41 to be vigilant for a return of the figure, there are only four known records of the being fighting alongside the Lamenters and in two of the instances, all Lamenters were killed who were at the battles leaving only an Imperial Guard Psyker in one case, and a Pict Recording in other to even reveal its presence.

By the end of the M41 only one pattern could be ascribed to the figure. It always appeared on a planet or place that Sanguinus had visited previously during the era of the Great Crusade. What this foretells or means has become the subject of increasing debate amongst the Chapter Leadership. In one hand the Lamentor carries what some believe to be the original "Book of Counted Sorrows" a record of every loss suffered by Sanguinus and the Lamenters. A single Lightning Claw that has been described as able to cut through Admantine and Power fields as if they did not exsist is his only armament.

For Imperial scholars should the "Lamentor" ever become known outside of the Chapter, it will add to the growing unease that is prevalent amongst several Inquisitorial factions already calling for a full investigation into the Blood Angels. As for the Blood Angels themselves, no known records indicate their own knowledge of the "Lamentor".

Lamentor. Arms are Lightning Claw, Commander Sprue. Book is Dark Angels Veteran Sprue. Helm is a Dark Angels Vet Head drilled out. Chest is Sang Guard Sprue. Body is Dark Angel Veteran. Back Pack and Wings from the Sang Guard Sprue. Shoulder pads are Sang Guard and MKVI Corvus Armor "beakie" shoulder pad.

Designer Notes:

I wanted this figure to be specifically Lamentor rather than a carbon copy of the Sanguinor. However I had to ensure it remained a design that would fit with the army. In one hand he carries the Book of Counted Sorrows... detailing the losses of the Chapter and Sanguinus. (Why I have left deliberately mysterious but the idea is that the Lamentor only appears where Sanguinus met defeat or great loss during the Great Crusade.)  The white and black are very Lamenter orientated and the claw... was part of the inspirational and homage to the RT era High Warlock figure for Harlequins which remains even now 20 odd years after release my favorite figure of all time in Citadel cast.

Chapter Master Lamentors

Finally....

In Imperial Armor 9, the Chapter Master for the Lamenters is given a brief blurb and we are told that he wears gold and chequey armor. (Strange way to say chequer pattern, but meh). We are told that he is blonde and we are given an overview of his weaponry and the fact he is the Lord of Ruin. (What this means is not discussed apart from the ability in game it provides).

My take on the Chapter Master... (Malakim) is slightly out of touch with this description due to the fact I prefer to do my Sang Guards and Honor Guards with a Silver focus instead of a Gold one. Yellow and Silver suit each other ok as colors and I wanted my Sepluchre Guard (Sanguinary Guard), to be a different feel from the  Blood Angels but continue the theme of the BA heraldry and design process.

Here he is. My only downfall with the figure is I cannot secure anymore of these bases... the company having closed. But I think it suits him well!

I should note too.. I designed the character and the parts, but Maggy from Redstick did the paint for this and the Lamentor. (I am good... but I am nowhere near that good). Next week we begin with some finished GK elements.

Base (unfortunately I only have 1 more of these... probably to be used for a future figure)

Assualt Squad Canto

Name; Assault Squad Canto. 7th Squad 5th Company. Lamenters Chapter
Organizational;  Led by Veteran Brother Sergeant Walen Canto.

As replacements for losses became increasingly difficult during the Crusade the Lamenters were faced with a difficult choice.  The Lamenters were constantly moving from theatre to theatre of operations throughout Segmentum Ultima and from 841.M41 through till 999.M41 only a short three teran month respite was given to the Chapter when at least one of its companies was not deployed in action.

Assualt Squad Canto 964.M41. On the left is Veteran Sergant Canto. At the rear with meltagun is Honored Brother Gabo who's real blood twin fights in another unit. Brother Handel a fairly new recruit had just been awarded his first purity seal which he wears with distinction on his wrist. Veteran Brother Iona who's trademark fighting style of using two bolt pistols would prove invaluable in the confined tunnels of the underhive of Tyrian gave the unit much needed extra close range firepower. New recruit Brother Dexter eschewed his helmet giving rise to his nickname "goldy" for his pale straw hair.

Lamenters Librarians

The Lamenters have always had to recruit from a variety of worlds, unlike their Blood Angel founders the chapter has for all of its history been a fleet based one. Although this has allowed greater flexibility in the ability to recruit from worlds, the chances of recruiting a potential psyker are haphazard and based off where the chapter currently is during a recruitment campaign. After the Badab War only four Librarians remained on the Chapter Honor roll, the former Chief Librarian had fallen during the conflict and a successor had yet to be named by the conclusion of the conflict.

Brother Epistolary Sonollion. Note that he is wearing typical Codex pattern colors. The Lamenters are a fairly rigid organization still adhering to the codex where practicality allows.
The Chief Librarian position is left vacant until a Lamenter Librarian has mastered what is known as the Book of Counted Sorrows. This tome a living document added to by each Chief Librarian records the fall of every Lamenter brother and the manner in which he perished in service to Sanguinus.  The tome itself has been rebound countless times and added too over the thousands of years since its inception and now consists of over 30 volumes, all treated as treasured artifacts by the Chapter. When the successor to the Chief Librarian has read each of the volumes and understands the loss and sacrifice and after his "testing" he is appointed Chief Librarian. The actual "testing" is an unknown rite to every member of the Chapter save the Sepulchre Guard. It is they who administer the "test" and it is their province alone whether the Chief Librarian has passed or failed. Failure however always results in the Death of the "Librarian Elect". After a completion of this test, the Chapter Master is presented with his new Chief Librarian who by tradition he grants his blessing and accepts as his chief advisor over all psychic matters.

Chief Librarian Ronwe. Ronwe is armed with a force sword of Eldar Design that was recovered some time in  M36. The weapons past is uknown but the strange matrix like honeycomb at its core amplifies the abilities of the user several times. In his other hand he carries an ancient plasma pistol, passed down from the same era.

The current Chief Librarian Ronwe has now served six decades as Chief Librarian, taking the test in 932.M41. Prior to his taking of the test Ronwe was known as a powerful Epistolary who showed a grim determination when engaged in battle with his enemies. With a booming loud voice Ronwe would erupt in battle using force lightning to blast opponents as he moved forward across the field of battle encouraging his battle brothers to acts of bravery in the face of their foes. He was known as a battle brother who although forever not accepted completely by his brother marines would often partake in the more physical competitions favored by the 8th Company Assault Squads when not in battle or completing his other duties.

A log entry by the Mentor Legion Chaplain Fortius in 925.M41 talks of a giant of a marine who's voice carried across the entire battle damning the enemy and leading from the front facing off odds of at least 50 to 1. However after his "testing" Ronwe has become stern. His booming voice still calls out across the field but their is now an inherent hardness in the tone and he no longer is as accepting of the company of his battle brothers. He spends his time in the Chapters Librarium adding line after line to the Book of Counted Sorrows and forever looking to recruit to the tiny brotherhood of librarians that still exist in the Lamenters Chapter.

Inquisitor Taipan of the Ordo Hereticus

Name; Inquisitor Taipan. Ordo Hereticus Junior Legate.
Rank; Inquisitor Ordinate. Junior Legate formerly attached to Lord Inquisitor Falina

As the mystery of the Lamenters unfolded, one man led the investigations. Little did he know where it would lead him would be to his own death at the hands of a Hive Fleet.

Taipan left Segmentum Solar some time in late 899.M41 recently having completed his investigations of the Lamenters. He arrived at Malvolion carrying writs of investigation and orders to cleanse any taint he found. If required he knew that a few scant light years away the bulk of the Scythes of the Emperor Chapter would be able to assist in any overwhelming show of force required to ensure compliance with his orders.

He arrived in system in 999.M41 unknowing of the threat that was about to engulf Malvolion or both the Lamenters and the Scythes of the Emperor. He had been in the warp for over 2 months and communication had been impossible with the outside. The only clue that something was amiss was the sudden return to normal space as the Deep Space Vessel "Throne of Judgement" lurched into reality.

Inquisitor Taipan of the Ordo Heretics outside Command Bunker 23, Malvolion 999.M41. He is armed with a force weapon of typical Inquisition design. His body armor is supplemented with a refractor field to ward off attacks, while in his left hand is a master crafted bolter. His clothing,  like all agents of the Inquisition is eclectic and comes down to his own personal preference.

Within a few seconds the young Inquisitor was beset. He had been on the Command Bridge waiting to open a hail and demand compliance, instead what he saw drained all the color from his face. Three bio-ships many times larger than an Emperor Class Battleship were already descending upon the planet. Hundreds more biological strike craft were trailing behind them or protecting the larger ships from a small Imperial fleet that was standing off close to Malvolion. The comm chatter indicated the Lamenters had deployed to the surface in defense of several key installations and to support the Mordian Iron Guard Tank Regiments which were being steadily overrun.

Taipan was known for his use of Servo Skulls to record his actions and ensure that any signs of Heresy were captured on vid pict. From this angle it is also possible to see the extensive cybernetic implants that the young Inquisitor has been able to procure over his career.

Taipan immediately made a choice that would bury the secret of the Lamenters again... and lead to his own doom. Ordering the Navigator to set course for the Planet he was able to make planet fall and join up with his fellow Inquistior Draco of the Ordo Xenos. The meeting between the two was brief, Draco being the senior Inquisitor had little time to spare for what he thought was a travelling Hereticus Inquisitor who happened to stumble into the new war zone. He ordered Taipan to join the Malvolion PDF and Arbite Troops that were attempting to ensure an orderly evacuation of the Capital.

Interrogator Huan has served with Taipan for the last 5 years. The Interrogator's chosen weapon is the flamer which has been extensively modified in a typical Inquisitorial pattern. He is seen here chanting a psalm from the Book of Judgement.

The Capital was overrun several hours later, there was no trace of Inquisitor Taipan or his agents and no records are written to indicate he survived. As far as his own Order assume, Taipan was lost when the Throne of Judgement entered the Warp in 999.M41 in Segmentum Solar and has never reappeared.

Rear view of the Interrogator, showing the blessed promethium tanks that feed the flamer.

Captain Herophilos Konstantin

Name; Captain Herophilos Konstantin
Rank; Captain 5th Company. Lamenters. Protector of the Iconostasis, Master of the Parastas.

The 5th Company of the Lamenters has had a distinguished history and it's latest Captain is filled with pride to be given such a chance to serve the Emperor and Sanguinus as it's leader. The 5th Company known by it's nickname the "bolts" after it's first Captain cleaved an eldar warlock in two like a bolt of lightning as he sped past on his jet bike just after the Company came to full strength in M36.

As Captain of the 5th Company, Konstantin is known as the Protector of the Iconostasis and Master of the Parastas, both internal Lamenter titles awarded to each 5th Company Captain as he is appointed and inducted into the deeper mysteries of the Chapter. Imperial Scholars note that the Iconostasis is old High Gothic from the M31 and the word roughly translates as the place of division between where a body is laid to rest and the greater cathedral. The title of Master of the Parastas also is an old High Gothic title not used since the last burial of Primarch in M32. The Prastas was the musical and prayer component sung or spoken at the internment of these heros of the Imperium. The last one actually completed was for Rogal Dorn sometime after the recovery of his skeletal hands before their incasement in amber by the Imperial Fists.

Captain Konstantin. Protector of the Iconostasis.

Whether or not the Lamenters had something or have something to do with the funeral rite or burial of Sanguinus is open to conjecture, as they were not founded until M36. However the investigations of Ordo Hereticus Legate Taipan after the events of the Badab War have uncovered links between the Lamenters and the aftermath of the Heresy. Taipan had been investigating an archeotech discovery that supposedly had been used in the modification of geneseed sometime around M36, the same time of the Lamenter founding. All records pertaining to Taipan's investigation however are now gone, lost along with him, his retinue and supposedly the Lamenter's themselves when he arrived at Malovolion just a few short hours before Kraken struck the planet consuming all biological matter in the system. What the young Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor discovered or feared is now lost.

Konstantin had only served a short time as Captain, since 958.M41, but had already distinguished himself as a leader amongst his peers and the marines under his command never wavered or faltered in battle. Konstantin had been a Veteran Sergeant of the 1st Company prior to his Captaincy and had fought with Chapter Master Malakim Phorus serving in his honor guard as early as 899.M41. Konstantin was a fearless marine and when named Champion of the 1st Company in 900.M41 took any challenge presented to him on behalf of the company. Konstantin's skill with a blade was matched only by members of the Sepluchre Guard and he spent much of his time sparing with the ancient warriors even when he became Captain. His greatest desire is to one day be uplifted to their hallowed ranks.

Note the Shoulder pad depiciting Sanguinus. Sanguinus is wearing a blue robe, often associated with his funerary robe when he was interred in M31. Most other scion Chapters depict the Primarch in a white or red robe.

Konstantin know fights with "Judgement" the sceptre of office of the 5th Company Captain, a power weapon that has not been manufactured since M35 and has fallen out of use in the Astrates generally due to their increased power drain compared to later models. Konstantin now practices constantly with the mace like weapon and understands that after he finally masters it, only then will he be worthy of the rank he now holds.  The Captain also wields a rare combi melta, which he has lovingly restored since it's discovery in the Armory. The Chapter's techmarines so impressed with his artisan skills presented a servo skull to the Captain to assist him in the field.

Konstantin wears MkVI armor his black helm denoting his status as having served in the 1st Company and as a veteran of those fabled warriors. The leg plates are highly ornamented with script and designs depicting the former owners of the armor.  His right shoulder pad holds a green laurel denoting his former title of 1st Company Champion and the right pad denotes the "Sanguinus Penitent" an award common amongst the scions of Sanguinus for the ability to resist the Red Thirst even in the most dire of circumstances. His backpack is also decorated with skulls, in this case loyal Chapter retainers who even in death continue to serve their Captain. The chequered panel tabard is another award from his time in the 1st Company when he led Strike Force "Sanguine Victus" against the Dark Eldar pirate warband that was terrorizing the Griessan Shipping Lanes. Konstantin's bold boarding tactics caught the pirates unaware and within 3 months he had restored security to the Shipping Lanes of the Sector.  Hanging from his neck is his Terminator Crux, awarded to all members who are honored to fight in the few remaining suits of Terminator Armor that the Chapter holds.

The Laurels also common for Company Champions are awarded to any Lamenter who has the authority to carry the Company banner. The skull device in the centre depicts that the wearer has carried the banner and not let it fall in combat.

Konstantin's banner is that held by every 5th Company Captain since its inception. The four paneled background with the central red heart. The censer hanging from the banner was awarded to the 5th Company by the Hawk Lords Chapter sometime in M38 for the saving of several of their land raiders from destruction around the Eye of Terror in the now forgotten "Helios Campaign". The Censer is a sacred artifact of the 5th Company and it is traditionally carried into battle by the Captain. Lastly Konstantin wears a black cloak, as all those of Command Rank do in the Lamenters which is common amoghts the entire Astrates, it's blue braid honors Konstantin as a 150 year veteran of the Chapter.

From behind the polished skulls of two of the Companies favored retainers have been honored with being used on the Captains backpack. The censer as noted was a gift from the Hawk Lord Chapter sometime in the distant past. At his feet, his servo skull projects data constantly into the view screen of the Type VI helmet that Konstantin wears.

Notes!: Left arm is from the DA veteran sprue, chest is from the Templar sprue, Left Shoulder pad is from the DC sprue, Combi Weapon from the SM Commander, Cloak from the SM Commander, Legs from the DC sprue. Servo Skull from the Dev Box, Censer from the DA veteran sprue. Laurel Pad from the SM Command Squad. Helmet from the SM Tactical set. Backpack is a standard AOBR backpack with two skulls from WFP Vampire Counts cut to fit the sides.  Servo skull has been attached with a small brass rod to ensure it stays attached to base. The banner is from the SM Command Squad.

Calix Primus Soutenir

Name; Calix Primus Soutenir
Rank; Calix Primus. Head of the Lamenters Apothecarium. First Among Equals. The Keeper of the Past.

Soutenir fell at Malvolion along with most of his chapter, however for the Calix Primus... the leader of the Sanguinary Priesthood of the Lamenters Chapter it was a fate he welcomed. Cursed with the growing sorrow in his heart and with the memories of the past growing ever stronger with each passing day, it was almost a relief for the Calix when a Hive Tyrant decapitated him during the final minutes of the Fall of Malvolion.

Recruited from an advanced culture in 922.M41 Soutenir was not taken at random by the Lamenters but chosen for his exceptional abilities to resist mental stress. The young recruit had measured beyond the standard scale for mental resistance to both psychic and emotional abuse even compared to a seasoned veteran and he was inducted into the Priesthood as an acolyte as are all who will become the Calix Primus. Although for any Codex or most non Codex chapters this process is a position earned, respected and one of trust the Chief Apothecary of the Lamenters, their spiritual centre... like any other Calix Primus had to be special even before recruitment.

The curse of Sanguinus runs strong in the blood lines of the successor chapters, however unlike any other of their brethren chapters the Lamenters are doubly cursed. Corbulo of the Blood Angels.... can see the future... it haunts his visions just as it did his Primarch. But the Lamenters are a dark reflection of their cousins in several ways and in this it is no different. Calix Primus Soutenir only can see the past in his visions.

Calix Primus, like all Calix is dressed in the silvered armor of the Seplucher Guard. Soutenir lost his left eye in 969.M41 after a particularly vicious struggle with a Champion of Nurgle in which a single drop of liquid spilt on his face. It was only his skills as a Apothecary that led Soutenir to a cure... removal of half of his entire skull. On his right and left shoulders are displayed the heraldry of the Calix Primus the chalice, the same device is repeated on his chest. In his right hand he carries "Remember" the traditional armament of the Calix Primus an artisan crafted combi-plasma weapon.
Model was designed as follows. Chest is a DC specific chalice one, same with the shoulder pads and legs and backpack. The right arm is from the Apothecary SM command, the left arm and weapon from the SM Commander. The head is the SM commander head as well. When I put him together I got as much stuff with chalices on it as I could find from the remains of my DC sprues and just kept mixing things in till I found the right mix of a chalice style theme. I think it mixes well, unsure of the weapon in retrospect, but it seemed to fit him quite well.

The Lamenters curse is one which goes to the heart of the Blood Angels and the Calix Primus represents that heart spiritually in the Lamenters chapter. The blood that runs in the chalices of the Lamenters Apothecaries is that of Sanguinus, the priests are the living vessels of that blood as well.... just as it is with their cousins the Flesh tearers, The Blood Drinkers and the Blood Angels themselves. The rituals are similiar to their cousins but different and even now at the end of the 41M to any Imperial agency or even another scion of Sanguinus their are haunting similarities between the Lamenters and their cousins. But there is a darker secret that began in 32M that haunts the Lamenters and burdens them well past what their cousins could ever know, the ability of the Calix Primus is only the tip of the iceberg of the dark secrets that envelop the Chapter.

Soutenir's curse however to see past events and his predecessors has saved the Lamenters from destruction. Soutenir recalls in his visions similar battles that the Lamenters face, problems that they encounter and manages to advise his Chapter Master with all of the past knowledge at his disposal. It was Soutenir's knowledge of several worlds that Sanguinus had walked upon when he lived and campaigns that long dead Blood Angels had fought with their primarch that haunted his sight and allow him to tell of how the Primarch and legion triumphed or failed....

The Calix Primus adornments are quite familiar to other scions of Sanguinus such as the Blood Angels and Blood Drinkers.

However like every Calix Primus before him, the cost becomes eventually too great, infused with the essence of the visions of Sanguinus's past and the past of their forebears and those failures that are not recorded, of victories lost, of worlds destroyed that eventually lead every Calix Primus into a state where they are totally lost in the past, trapped reliving battles now long gone.

For Soutenir that moment came when the Tyranids first arrived at Malovolion. He sat silently even as the Chapter roused itself for battle and alone in his cell he began to live the events of the Imperial Siege. Soutenir fell at Malovolion, but for him it was fighting against the traitor legions at the gates of the Palace, watching as his Primarch rose up and struck down the traitors, defending the Emperor to the last.

Chaplain Anastasius

 Name; Chaplain Anastasius Fero
Rank; Chaplain. Attached to 7th Company until 888.41M Reassigned 5th Company until 999.M41

Anastasius is an emotional marine for a Chaplain. Unlike most Space marine Chaplains he is not a stern foreboding character who watches his brothers for signs of heresy or impurity at every opportunity but a inspirational and determined figure. Anastatsius has an inner fire which drives him across the field of battle even more so than his brother Lamenters. As a scout in the early 780's of the 41M it was often commented how he was always first to talk of how the squad could accomplish its mission and was seen as a bolstering influence on morale when they were sent out to achieve a task.

In 800.M41 he became a member of the 7th Company and it was here that fate played its hand. Anastasius's squad was cut off from the rest of the Lamenters forces on the desert world of Turic by the rising forms of necrons who had been waiting for them beneath the sands as the Space marines had landed to investigate the disappearance of a Adeptus Mechanicus outpost on the planet. The 7th Company had been deployed in a flanking maneuver to sweep over the sands in Land speeders and Stormravens to investigate the Southern Continent and were unequipped to fight off a determined entrenched foe that rose from nowhere. At least 6 Land Speeders and 2 Stormravens were hit from Gauss weapons and were sent crashing down on the edge of a rocky canyon, the surviving marines, Anastasius amongst them gathered at the canyon and prepared to mount a defense against the metallic warriors who were advancing upon them slowly but steadily. Anastasius and eight other assault marines were greeted with a grizzly sight at the canyon entrance, the torn and bloodied body of Chaplain Gurel who had been shot down as well.

The ancient Chaplain was dying his back broken and his face a tangled mess of flesh and shattered bone. Gurel however was damned if his death would not be an example to the marines and managed to rise to a sitting position spitting out the words. "You will prevail" before with his last breath he heaved his Crozius with his arm and sent the sacred object toward the marines. Anastasius caught the Crozius in his right hand and rising the ancient weapon above his head, tears streaming down his face his voice low and dark he began the liturgy of sorrow that Gurel had taught them all as young initiates.

Note the silvered adornment, Lamenters Chaplains are particular in their lack of golden coloring. Anastasius also has donned a skull helmet typical of most Chaplians in the Astrates, the reasons for which are unknown but not uncommon amongst the ranks of non codex Chaplains. His armor is still covered with the typical skull motif and purity seals adorn his legs. Of particular note is the chequered banner and censer. The censer is a particular tributary item utilized by the Lamenters, its origins are unknown.

After 12 days a Lamenter Strike Force backed up by a Baneblade of the Harkanian Fire Eaters Imperial Guard finally arrived at the canyon entrance having fought their way across the sands to rescue or recover their fallen brethren. There they found Anastasius and 15 brothers all alive still chanting the liturgy of sorrow surrounded by the broken metallic bodies of their foes in some places knee deep. When asked how they had survived, the marines their voices now hoarse and lips bleeding whispered of how it was Anastasius who would not let them rest, who forced them to continue fighting well beyond their limits of endurance. Anastasius was summoned by the Chaplain accompanying the Strike Force and demanded to know what he had done and how he had kept his brothers alive. The taking of a sacred artifact from the dead without the proper rituals being a particular taboo of the Lamenters Chapter. Anastasius knelt before the Chaplain and held the now chipped and dented Crozius before him before answering his eyes never moving from looking directly into his superiors eyes. "The Emperor protects" was all he said before looking away. The Chaplain grabbed the Crozius and slammed it against the side of the young marines head sending him sprawling flat before responding and holding out his black gloved hand for the marine. "Never look away when you are the righteous as you are the judge and must see all he cannot see from his throne." Anastasius took the black gloved hand presented to him and passed into the ranks of the Lamenters Chaplaincy on that day.

Anastasius served as the Chaplain for the 7th Company for over a century. However with the 7th Company split piecemeal to bolster battle line companies after 888.M41, he became the spiritual protector of the Emperor for the 5th Company, a position he held until the events at Malvolion. Anastasius fell at Malovolion last reports saw him leading the remains of the 7th and 8th squads in a desperate defense of the an Evac point which was then overrun by a pack of Tyranid Warriors armed with close combat weapons.

Anastasius still wields the same Crozius he was thrown by Chaplain Gurel, the weapon worn and battle marked is a sacred artifact of the Lamenters Chaplaincy having been passed down from Chaplain to Chaplain since the end of 37M. It's design is slightly different, harboring its origins in creation were probably due to some now faded victory the LamentersSanguinus standing protector of the Emperor during the Siege of Terra.  His side arm is a bolt pistol of ancient design dating back to a time when crescent magazine cases dominated the Astrates Armory.

*The Liturgy of Sorrows is a particular chant of the Lamenters Chapter which recalls the funeral procession of Sanguinus and his eventual entombment on Baal.  It describes that Sanguinus would not shrink from his duty to the Emperor even though he knew his fate before going to face the Warmaster. Imperial Historians note that the Liturgy is a prayer of an earlier era or based from one that was popualr amongst the worlds visited by Sanguinus or saved by the Blood Angels after M32 till around 45033.M41

The Crozius is made from a simple application of a Death Company TH with the head removed and replaced with a Angel decoration from the DA ravenwing set. The armor is a head from the Death Company and the chest and legs belong to the DC as well along with the Shoulder pads. The backpack is a DA veteran pack with skulls and the banner from a SM tactical squad. The bolt pistol although partially obscured has a scope from the SM tactical squad and is from a plastic arm set from a character model (libby) circa 1990 Citadel/GW.

Simple Black color scheme with grey highlighting. I removed gold as it clashed too much with the figure and allowed the silver to show through. The scroll work is washed, but not the banner or skulls.

Adeptus Arbites Prefecture and Malvolion PDF

Native and Civilian Forces of Malvolion Circa 995.M41 to 998.M41
Commanding Officer; Adeptus Arbites Judge Executus 1st Class. Hugo Klavin

When the Lamenters reached Malvolion the world was already doomed. As the brethren started to descend in their drop pods to give support to the 50th Mordian and other Regiments and attempt to stem the tide of the invasion it was already too late to save the world. Malovion was a rich agricultural world with masses of bio-mass waiting to be consumed for a hungry Hive Fleet Kraken and the Lamenters had to attempt to deny it being able to feed. Inquisitor Draco leading the Ordo Xenos forces present and in overall command of the operation immediately took command of the civilian militia and seconded the Adeptus Arbites Contingent present on Malovion to his own forces.

Hugo Klavin Adeptus Arbites Judge Executus 1st Class. Segmentum Ultima, Planet Malvolion. Hugo wears his traditional black overcoat of an Arbite Judge, his Helmet, a relic itself of a bygone age is decorated with the Imperial Eagle looking straight ahead. The symbol of the Emperors all knowing judgement in those who the Arbite looks upon. The Clenched Fist symbol is a traditional Arbiter Symbol sometimes combined with Ivory Wings it represents the Arbites as greater members of the Ordo Forces. Hugo is also decorated with several awards on his lapels including a Bone Heart which is awarded after being wounded five times in service for enforcing Imperial Law.

The Adeptus Arbites upon Malovion were a recent addition to the world, having only arrived five years prior at the request of the senior Administratum Adept on the planet. An oversight in the Imperial bureaucracy had left the planet with only a moderate tithe of agricultural harvest and within the space of two decades, rich land barons that had been selling the excess harvest had begun to enforce their own frontier justice upon each other. The Administratum at first unconcerned with such things soon took an active role when an entire seasons worth of harvest was sabotaged and put to the flame only three days before the harvesting began. Disgruntled wealthy land owners were now indulging in their own private wars, hiring mercenaries and even bribing units of the PDF and Imperial Guard Garrison to fight on their payrolls.

The Kralos Incursion 955.M41 Lamenters History

Please note; This is pure Non Canon Fluff and the pics associated are mine. I have incorporated some 40k elements. As I have been reading and playing 40k now for... well too long. Also I have honored my fellow Lamenter Brother Aventine, who has been an inspiration to finish this force. Thankyou Aventine.

Kralos Prime and Kralos Secundus. Kralos System. M41. Outskirts of Ultima Segmentum

The Kralos Incursion took place in unsettling circumstances for the Lamenters. It had only been a few scant Terran months since they had returned to full strength and they were now supposedly almost over seven decades into their crusade of penitence for their actions during the Badab War. Even with so much time past the Chapter was haunted by its actions. In some ways they felt vinidicated of their role and in others shameful for their actions. In the eyes of the greater Imperium however and the worlds they visited and assisted they were still Space Marines, in fact the Lamenters were little known to the worlds they rescued or threats they fought until they arrived as saviours. For the citizens of the Imperium, Imperial Governors, Fleet Commanders, Generals and Sector Commanders they were a gift from the Throne itself... marines willing to assist them against the Xenos threat which had reared its head.

Squad Fernec Lamenters Tactical Squad

Lamenters Squad “Fernec” Circa 993-998.M41
1st Squad 5th Company
Squad Veteran Sergeant Fernec
Squad Symbol; None taken. Traditionally the 1st Squads symbol has been a white skull on a yellow background. However under Veteran Sergeant Fernec no such symbol is displayed.

Fernec has been a Veteran Sergeant now for over 110 years. He has risen steadily through the ranks before taking his position from its former holder sometime during the Badab War. Fernec is an enigma amongst his brethren; he has seen action in a thousand war zones across hundreds of worlds and has participated in over 200 drop pod assault missions. Each of these actions he has proven time and time again to be a dependable leader and stood for 2 years as beveret Captain of the Company until the appointment of Captain Konstantin in 958.M41

The Veteran Sergeant is a champion of Codex Astrates. He follows it as strictly to its letter as possible. If circumstances had been different, Fernec would be a senior member of the Chaplaincy or a Captain in his own right if he had been recruited into a more Codex adherent chapter.

The men under Fernec’s command are kitted out in perfect Codex tactical gear and formation for any mission. The Missile Launcher and Flamer the weapons of the Standard Approach Tactical Squad from the Codex. Fernec himself is armed with the standard Bolt Pistol and Chainsword, the traditional weapons of the Tactical Sergeant and on his backpack sits a “Bronze Eagle” to show his position as Veteran Sergeant. At his waist on a length of Admantium chain hangs his “Crux Termiantus” rewarded to Fernec after spending 25 years as a member of the 1st Company before his promotion to Veteran Sergeant. As a former beveret Captain Fernec also wears a white loincloth to show the honor. On his chest plate a “Bronze Skull” sits proudly marking 100 years service to his Chapter. Fernec allows little Sanguinary decoration within his squad. His belief that the scions of Sanguinus are capable or resisting the Red Thirst when they apply themselves wholly to the Codex Astrates.

The squad itself contains examples of several different armour types, each member of the 1st Squad is a veteran in his own right, Fernec gets the pick of the entire Company for recruitment and most of the older Lamenters gravitate toward the Sergeant and it is a 5th Company honour to be selected to serve in the 1st Squad.

Calix Antonius.

Name; Calix Antonius
Rank; Calix (Space Marine Apothecary) Sanginuary Priest of the Lamenters Chapter

Brother Antonius now numbers amongst the oldest Lamenters still serving the Chapter by the time of the events of Malvolion and the Chapters almost subsequent destruction. Antonius's personal history is now lost, destroyed with countless other chapter records in the relentless assaults of the Minotuars chapter upon the Chapter Battle Barge at the Battle of Operta. Antonius is a silent brooding individual who goes about his duty with cold calculated detachment. In battle his monotone voice rings out across the field encouraging his brothers to stand firm, to recognize the power of the blood in their veins and to not falter in the face of adversity. In essence he calms his battle brothers with a coldness allowing them to unemotionally continue their work, shrug off the most deadly of wounds until they have completed their appointed task and finished the mission.

Ultramarine records however indicate a young apothecary named Antonius mentioned in dispatches during the Corinth Campaign where he was singled out for retrieving gene seed from fallen brothers under heavy fire from Ork emplacements. Whether or not this is the same Antonius is unknown.

What records now exists since the Badab War indicate Antonius is a tireless warrior who continues to work upon making his battle brothers effective in battle, he suffers the same melancholy that each of his brothers suffers, but has channeled it into an unfeeling remorseless approach to his work, the ends always justifying the means. This has led him to clash several times with Chaplain Anastasius over the loss of "Humanity" and the Lamenters current spiritual and moral direction. Antonius believes that only through removing emotion can the Lamenters successfully control the red thirst, whereas Anastasius sees this as the loss of "Humanity".

Antonius is armed with "Andris" a power sword of antiquity that has been handed down through the ranks of the Calix and was presented as a gift from the Blood Angels just after the Chapters founding. The blade has never broken or dulled and is always wielded by a senior Sanguinary Priest.

His silver armor is typical for all members of the Calix, after they have served in the Honor Guards of the Chapter and the Sanguinary Guard, his left shoulder pad in bronze depicts his honor of having been one of the few Lamenters that has been awarded Terminator Honors. Terminator Armor being so rare within the Lamenters Chapter, this is a rare honor afforded to only the most senior and trusted members of the Lamenters.

His right shoulder pad depicts the Imperial Gold Eagle emblazoned with the apothecary symbol, an honor conferred after the Corinth Campaign in which he recovered over 100 gene seed Zygotes.

On his left leg appears the "Golden Laurel" awarded to him after he was the last member of Captain Gergo's honor guard remaining to rally the 5th Company after a disastrous drop pod assault on an unknown Ork stronghold in 698.M41. Antonius recovered the 5th Companies standard and managed to rally and inspire the remaining 14 battle brothers of 80 who had descended to capture the stronghold and hold until reinforcements arrived. For this deed, he was promoted to full member of the Calix and took his place as full Sanguinary Priest.

His chest eagle is also unquie having been awarded the "Red Heart of Baal" in 799.M41 for this actions in saving 42 battle brothers who had been thought lost due to vacuum exposure during a hull breach of the strike cruiser "Truimphant Voluntar".

His mark VII armor is also adorned with a chequer pattern right knee pad, to show his chapter, his left knee pad remains white, the color of the Apothecarium.

Antonius has a strange banner, eschewing the normal policy of depicting the campaigns he has fought in, he has chosen to keep his heraldry plain and unadorned, the white background of the Apothecary only broken by the single red heart, the symbol of the Calix Priesthood.

Senior Calix Antonius. Assigned to 5th Company as of 999.M41
Armament; "Andris" Power Sword. Bolt Pistol. Krak and Frag Genades. Narthecium.

Mellow Yellow Lord of Death...

Well things have been coming along on the painting front...

1st. Mephiston Lord of Death in a Lamenters style scheme. I am still debating how to do the backpack and its bugging me
to death... lol. The theory was that the banner pole would sit nicely, however most if it is obscured by the collar. So I am rethinking how to give him a decent banner.
